Holly OBerem's Fundraiser
Donations are being MATCHED, join me and help make a difference!
See below for some common questions I get asked about our program and why we need funding:
We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
1. Where do you guys find the survivors you work with?
Sadly, we have never had to actively "find" anyone. We have a constant flow of survivors in need coming from a variety of sources including shelters, law enforcement, counselors, churches and national trafficking alliance groups. We are currently turning 3 survivors away per week from acceptance into our program due to lack of funding, staff and housing.
2. What country are most of the people from you work with?
Here! Out of the 107 people we have worked with, only 1 of them was international. The rest are all from right here in the US, American and most of them are from Colorado.
3. Why do survivors have legal issues when they're the victims?
It's very common for survivors to have a variety of matters to be addressed legally. These commonly include cases against their traffickers, custody cases surrounding their children or charges related to drugs or "prostitution" (even though these were are result of being trafficked).
4. I'm so angry! Where can I help "hunt" these traffickers down?
I don't have an answer on that one since we only work with Survivors and their children. I will say though that there are 3 parties involved in trafficking: the victim, the trafficker and the buyer. I would LOVE someday not to work with survivors since there are no more victims! The problem is, that will never happen unless we can end the demand... which beings with the buyers. Traffickers can't traffic if there's no one buying. So with this concept in mind, please be aware of those around you who may be struggling with a pornography addiction or those who need more education around what trafficking looks like. Small interventions can have a huge impact.
